Ingredients

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Dough
Combine the warm water, sugar, and salt in a bowl and sprinkle the yeast on top. Allow to sit for 5 minutes, or until the mixture begins to foam. Add the flour and melted butter, and mix until the dough is well combined. Knead the dough on a floured surface until it is smooth and elastic, about 5 minutes. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it sit in a warm place for about 50 minutes, or until it has doubled in size.
  2. Boil the Pretzels
Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C). In a large pot, bring the 10 cups of water and the baking soda to a rolling boil. Boil the pretzels, one at a time, for 30 seconds each, then remove them with a slotted spoon and place them on a baking sheet.
  3. Bake
Brush each pretzel with the beaten egg yolk and water mixture, then sprinkle with pretzel salt. Bake for 12-14 minutes, or until golden brown. Remove from the oven and let cool on a wire rack for at least 5 minutes before serving.
